Wind turbines create record breaking electricity following Storm Bella

Record breaking electricity has been generated from wind turbines this Boxing Day as result of Storm Bella. Providing 50.7% of Great Britain’s electricity on the day, the 100mph winds exceeded previous records from August 21st this year. The electricity was also generated by 21.1% nuclear power and 14.6% fossil gas.

The last decade has been described to have experienced a ‘renewables revolution’ by a Drax Electric Insights spokesperson and the news has further encouraged Government priorities for energy saving and sustainable energy.

A Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial revolution, introduced by the Government in November, pledged for every home in the UK to be powered by offshore wind, anticipating a surge in power produced reaching 40GW by 2030. On the list we were also presented with the Green Homes Grant scheme and new and advanced nuclear power.
